Ibogaine Aftercare: Your Guide to a Successful Recovery

Ibogaine treatment offers a success rate not found in other addiction treatment methods. However, like any treatment for addiction, the way time is spent after treatment is vital to long-term success.

Ibogaine aftercare is a term used to describe the recovery and healing time  following ibogaine treatment. Your aftercare plan may involve an ibogaine aftercare facility, or one of many alternatives.

Typically, it takes 90 days after ibogaine treatment for a patient to fully recover and prepare for the real world. This is an important time frame to keep in mind. It’s best to have a specific plan for this time focused on recuperation to ensure a higher likelihood of success.

Those without a solid plan are more likely to relapse and fall back into old habits once they  return to their lives.

Let’s look at the purpose of ibogaine aftercare and how it works, then learn about the various facilities, options, and alternatives available to help patients during their recovery and integration time post-ibogaine treatment.

Life post-treatment is not easy. Old triggers, friends, cravings, and life in general, become difficult obstacles for those with addictions to overcome.

With aftercare, you put yourself in a better position for success. Typically aftercare time is spent at a facility, but there are more ways to have a successful recovery.

There are a few specific goals that aftercare looks to achieve.

  • Recovery and Integration–It takes time for the body to physically adjust after treatment with ibogaine, and addiction generally. The ibogaine experience offers helpful insights into who you are and where you want to go in life. Time spent in therapy, meditating, and planning for the future helps with this process.
  • Positive Environment and Community–Being in a positive space and building relationships with those around you helps an individual become successful after addiction. Relying on positive influences and a community is necessary for long-term success.
  • Time–Full recovery takes time. The longer an individual remains in a healthy space, focused on building their future, the higher the chances of success and change. A 90-day plan offers the best results.

There are many ways to achieve these goals. Aftercare looks to help the individual by offering unique ways to help an individual find success.

Now, let’s look at the different ibogaine aftercare options that may make sense for you.

Ibogaine Aftercare Centers

First on the list is ibogaine aftercare centers.

These are centers and facilities that advertise themselves specifically for those who undergo ibogaine treatment at a clinic. These facilities specialize in recovery and integration post-ibogaine treatment.

In the past, there were many ibogaine aftercare centers available. Unfortunately, today there are very few.

However, the few remaining are very helpful for those looking to spend time in recovery in a program specifically designed for post-ibogaine integration.

Here are some of the primary characteristics to consider when choosing an aftercare center:

  • Therapy-focused: Some programs are based around therapy with a licensed therapist to support recovery and integration. Others do not.
  • Nature-based: Certain facility locations are in settings with access to nature and hiking. However, not all centers offer this.
  • Psychedelic-based: Some aftercare facilities are based on the continued use of psychedelics for integration and recovery.
  • USA or foreign location: Certain centers are located in the USA while others are outside of the country. Just like the cost of ibogaine treatment, the location will have an impact on pricing and the overall experience.

The type of aftercare facility you choose depends on which of these factors matter most to you. However, time is often the most important factor, which is offered by all aftercare facilities.

With that, let’s look at the next option on the list.

Extended-Stay Ibogaine Clinics

Today, more ibogaine clinics are offering extended-stay programs that are very similar to the ibogaine aftercare facilities described above.

Because of legality issues in the USA, these clinics are already located outside of the country. Foreign locations give them the ability to offer lower cost services, compared to services in the USA, and include psychedelic-based therapies.

These facilities offer the additional benefit of a strong community. Those waiting for ibogaine treatment connect with people staying at the facility that may have taken ibogaine weeks or even months before.

These facilities are often run by those who took ibogaine in their past as well.

The mix of individuals at different places on their path to recovery makes extended-stay at a clinic an interesting option for time after recovery.

However, you want to make sure you are going to be comfortable, in a place that focuses on treatment and aftercare.

Simply extending your stay at a facility that deals specifically with ibogaine treatment may not be ideal. Being stuck in a house with nothing to do often leads to negative feelings that caused addiction in the first place.

When considering an extended-stay clinic, make sure you are being offered:

  • Adequate space and privacy
  • Therapeutic options
  • Fun activities
  • Daily schedule
  • Exercise programs
  • Healthy routine
  • Goal setting and planning activities
  • Community
  • Increasing levels of freedom

All of these benefits ensure a positive and supportive experience during your ibogaine aftercare.

Ibogaine aftercare facilities and extended-stay clinics are the primary, ibogaine-based options for aftercare. However, there are other options that are not ibogaine specific that can be valuable.

Traditional Rehab Facilities

Typically, the withdrawal symptoms from quitting drugs are difficult to overcome. Going through withdrawal makes traditional rehab difficult.

However, after ibogaine, the majority of the withdrawals are eliminated. For those looking for further recovery time, a traditional rehab becomes a viable option after ibogaine treatment.

Traditional rehabs have their benefits, as well as their downsides. These types of facilities can offer payment alternatives and may be covered by health insurance, unlike ibogaine aftercare options.

Yet these facilities may feel stuffy, and may lack positivity. With any treatment, it depends on the location that the individual chooses.

And when choosing between going home or going to a traditional rehab facility, the benefit is clear–the more time away from your old life, the better.

A traditional treatment facility may be an option for those who need it after ibogaine treatment.

Transitional Living

The next option is transitional living. These facilities offer a place to live with others who are working to stay sober. Each location is different, and are often run privately, which means the options for each transitional living house will be different.

In this type of situation, where you live makes a big difference between staying sober and relapsing. That is why it’s so important to know exactly what you are getting before attending a transitional living home.

However, a good transitional facility can be very helpful for those in recovery.

With regular meetings, a positive environment, and like-minded community members, the right transitional living facility can make the difference in supporting life-long recovery.

Work Abroad Programs

It’s no surprise that a life dedicated to working hard and helping others is one of the most effective ways to overcome addiction. Often, being trapped in the boredom and selfishness of modern life makes addiction appealing.

That’s where work abroad programs offer benefits to those looking for a successful recovery. These programs mix the focus and effort of working on a farm with the adventure and excitement of moving to a foreign country.

There are also opportunities to stay within the USA, but move outside of your region that also may benefit those who don’t want to or can’t leave the USA.

Here is a list of potential work abroad services to consider:

There are many other alternatives to consider if this type of program interests you.

Out of all the options this may be the most difficult. However, the ability l to work, serve others, and understand the world around you is potentially the most effective option for the beginning of a new life after addiction.

Coaching and Online Programs

Although not ideal as a standalone option, phone coaching and online programs help further recovery after ibogaine treatment.

The benefit of these programs is they go well with other options on this list. And if an individual must return home, no matter the reason, then these programs are recommended as a way to advance recovery.

Coaching and online programs offer therapy, integration, and even community for those in recovery. These are invaluable tools for success after treatment.

Other Alternatives

For those without the resources to consider many of these options, there is still hope. The most important rule is avoid returning home at all costs and avoid previously negative influences.

Here are some other alternatives to consider.

  • Living with a relative–If you have a relative away from home who is willing to take you in, and can offer a positive environment, this is a smart option.
  • Find a job–The most difficult part of relocating is often getting employment. Submit applications and do all you can to get a job in a new location.
  • Get creative–It’s your life, and recovery is possible with a plan. If you need to, think outside the box. Adventure, hard work, and positive community make recovery possible. How can you create your own mix?
